Blog Party starts today!

Image
Wow. It's September. That totally caught me off guard. In that case, someone give me a hand with these balloons, and please, help yourself to some virtual chocolate dipped strawberries and champagne because it's BLOG PARTY TIME! For the next month and a half we are going to keep the blog hopping with special guests, cool contests, and exciting events. To kick things off, I have two announcements: Firstly, I am very pleased to present an extended excerpt of Grave Witch ! I know I've been teasing you with just the first two pages for the last few months, but I've now posted the full first chapter. I hope you enjoy! Secondly,  I would like to quickly share with you a  list of guests you can look forward to seeing during the Blog Party: (Guest list subject to change. Listed in order of planned appearance) Kelly Gay , author of the Charlie Madigan series . Lucienne Diver , author of the Vamped series. M. K. Hobson , author of Native Star. Mar

Don't forget that the Get the word out contest (with your chance to win a cool swag pack including the Ace/Roc sampler) is running until Sunday August 15th. Details can be found HERE .  I might have to add the FedEx guy to my Christmas card list if he keeps making my day the way he has over the last week. If you heard sequels of delight yesterday afternoon and caught sight of some crazy girl dancing around, that was probably me. A package arrived yesterday  containing several ARCs of Grave Witch, and I held a bound copy of my book in my hands for the first time. If you have never heard the term ARC before, it stands for Advanced Reader Copy/ Advanced Review Copy and is basically an unproofed copy of the manuscript which is bound and printed several months before the book goes to press so that it can be sent out to reviewers. By the words "uncorrected proof" you can tell this isn't the final version of the book, but it is very, very close. This book release is

Contest: Get the word out!

Grave Witch hits shelves in 56 days (and counting) and I need your help to get the word out. If you're viewing this post on my home blog, you might have already noticed the cool new countdown widget in the sidebar, but here it is again: Get the <a href="http://www.widgetbox.com/i/9d60aac4-4c96-44dd-a965-bc4bb345f794">Countdown Creator Pro</a> widget and many other <a href="http://www.widgetbox.com/">great free widgets</a> at <a href="http://www.widgetbox.com">Widgetbox</a>! Not seeing a widget? (<a href="http://docs.widgetbox.com/using-widgets/installing-widgets/why-cant-i-see-my-widget/">More info</a>) What do you think? I hope you like it. Yes, that widget is counting down to October 5th and Grave Witch's imminent release.  And yes, I'm getting excited.

Coming to a blog near you . . .

I can't believe Grave Witch will hit shelves in just a day over two months from now. Two months seems both very distant and way sooner than should be possible. I'm excited and terrified all at once--which means it's a good time to start planning a party. Yes, a party. A party spanning the majority of September and October. In preparation for Grave Witch's release I plan on hosting events and giveaways, and if I can arrange it, a whole slew of special guests .  The idea to host guests didn't hit me until yesterday, so I'm scrambling to get the list together, but I've already heard from one of my favorite authors and contacted several others, so things are looking good, party-wise.  As soon as I have nailed down dates, I'll release more concrete information. In the mean time, watch this space. I should be posting the schedule for my upcoming blog tour soon. I'll also be announcing guests for the party and hints at other events (as I think them up

A quick Sneak-Peek of GRAVE WITCH and the KISS of DEATH winner!

Well, you've been asking for it, and I have permission, so I am now releasing the first sneak-peek of Grave Witch . The book is still a little over five months from release date, so I only have permission to release a very short except, but I hope you enjoy this quick preview of the book. Closer to the release date I should be uploading a longer excerpt (hopefully I will get permission to release the entire first chapter). By the way, if you will be at ComicCon 2010, you will be among the first to read the first chapter as my publisher will be giving it out there. Be on the lookout! Now, without further ado, please click here to read the excerpt . Enjoy, and check back often for more updates! Switching gears, I'd like to now announce the winner of my recent contest. I employed a random number generator for fairness, and the winner of the signed copy of Rachel Caine's KISS of DEATH is: Bookie , who wrote, "I found your blog through All Things Urban Fantasy. I&

GRAVE WITCH Blurb

Grave witch Alex Craft can speak to the dead, but that doesn’t mean she likes what they have to say… As a private investigator and consultant for the police, Alex Craft has seen a lot of dark magic. But even though she’s on good terms with Death himself—who happens to look fantastic in a pair of jeans—nothing has prepared her for her latest case. Alex is investigating a high profile murder when she’s attacked by the ‘shade’ she’s raising, which should be impossible. To top off her day, someone makes a serious attempt on her life, but Death saves her. Guess he likes having her around… To solve this case Alex will have to team up with tough homicide detective Falin Andrews. Falin seems to be hiding something—though it’s certainly not his dislike of Alex—but Alex knows she needs his help to navigate the tangled webs of mortal and paranormal politics, and to track down a killer wielding a magic so malevolent, it may cost Alex her life…and her soul.

News and Links

So I just found out the artist for Grave Witch's (absolutely awesome) cover is Aleta Rafton. Her website with more of her art can be found here . I recognize quite a few of her pieces from other books, so how cool is that? (If you haven't seen the Grave Witch cover, scroll down to Friday's post and check it out.) In other news, Twice Dead is spending its third week in the top five bestselling dark fantasy list! Thank you everyone who has made that possible by buying books and telling friends about the series! The second book in the Alex Craft series is due April 1st, and I am hard at work trying to get it all shiny by that date. (Okay, maybe 'shiny' isn't the right word for dark fantasy. LOL) As I was reading over the first few chapters the other day, I realized that my characters are eating in 6 in of the first 15 scenes. Perhaps a little too much food. At this rate, Alex won't be fitting in that awesome outfit on the cover of Grave Witch. ^_^ Well,

GRAVE WITCH Cover Art!

Image
I received this in my email this morning and just got permission to post it. GRAVE WITCH is my upcoming October release from Roc. This is not the final version of the cover as quotes still need to be added to it, but the art is final. Isn't it breathtaking? Personally, I'm in awe! What do you think?   (If you repost, please note that this is not the final version of the cover.) I will be posting a blurb and excerpt soon, so stay tuned.  Also, have you joined the mailing list yet? Once I have permission to release an excerpt, I intend to make it available on my newsletter first. If you are looking for where to sign-up, you can do so in the box below.
